There is only one truly native breed of chicken in Slovenia: Štajerska, also known as the Altsteirer which has the same meaning. Slovenia used to be part of Austro-Hungary until 1918 and the Steiermark region (Štajerska in our language) has been split between the countries since.

Štajerska is, I'm told, a very hardy and self-reliant breed. If we had chickens on our mini homestead (we have ducks) that is the one I'd want.

Additionally there are "traditional" breeds - not native but historically omnipresent enough for them to be called that. Among them are "slovenska grahasta", "slovenska rjava" that you mentioned and "slovenska srebrna" - all of which are the source for the Prelux hybrid breeding program which produces the most widespread chickens in our country nowadays.

As I understand it the brown chicken (slovenska rjava) is nowadays mostly available at the state breeding center - faculty of biology at the Ljubljana university. This link should be a good starting point: https://www.bf.uni-lj.si/sl/enote/zootehnika/o-oddelku/katedre-in-druge-enote/prc-za-perutninarstvo/

In my opinion it would make sense to pursue this source and not use any of advertisements that individuals put up - if the situation with chickens is anything like the one with ducks (and I would suspect it's worse since chickens are much more widespread), breed names are used very loosely and undocumented cross breeding takes place all the time so it would be hard to be sure you're getting the correct sort of chicken.
