Snake Away

We found a 6 ft chicken snake very close to my chicken pen last week---last year we found 2 big snakes under the hens nesting boxes. So, since I am terrified of snakes, I don't want to see 'em around at all. Someone told me to get a product called "Snake Away". Has anyone here ever heard of it or used it? I think you just sprinkle it around but I an concerned my chickens may eat the granules and I think it has some cedar oil in it. Anyone got any ideas on this product?

I use it because we have a few pesky residents that would hang out at the back door. I would not use IN the pens but on the outside because it blocks them in, The idea is they hate the smell and won't cross so you need to make sure they are out before you spread it so they are not "trapped" in. I have not seen them on our porch in a year. It is worth a try but does not keep all species out.

Thanks, but I am concerned about my chickens eating it. I do let them free range in the evenings when I am at home. I think it has cedar oil in it so am worried it may be toxic to my girls. Do I need to be concerned?

I wouldn't waste my money on it
I've seen snakes IN cedar trees, and they are FULL of "cedar oil"

The best way to deter snakes is keep the area cleaned up so they don't have hiding places​

Yes, I would be concerned. I would not use it where they have access to it because it is shaped like small pellets and they may be attracted to it. I guess the best thing you could do is snake proof your coop and nest boxes with hardware cloth better.

Actually the Snake away I have seen on the shelves is mothballs ground up. Yoou can use mothballs where the chickens won't get them .I put them around the outside of my horsebarn and some trees I want to keep deer away from.Mothballs are cheaper... but use caution

If its a smallcoop you could elavate in up so it wouldnt be touching the ground.

I remember someone posting about using deer fencing or poultry mesh(?) stretched out in spirals like a slinky toy - the snakes can't navigate thru it and get stuck and die. It worked real well for them.
