I have been a reptile fan all my life, but my parents (or, to be more specific, my Dad) hated them all with a burning passion so I just stuck with more simple animals such as birds, which is why I ended up with three parrots and too many chickens to count.
This year I have been more bold with my animal loving habits and started to go herping (searching for reptiles) rather frequently, and so I'd always come up to the house with handfuls of lizards and little rat snakes and garter snakes that I had found sunbathing in the driveway.
My Mom had never disliked snakes, and had said that she wouldn't mind me having one, so eventually when my birthday came up she told me to ask my Dad for a snake.
Long story short, I asked for the biggest one I was willing to have and somehow got permission to spend hundreds of dollars on a ball python.
His name is Thomas, and I've had him for a few weeks so far. He's a champagne ball with a distinct stripe down his back and a slight wobble due to his morph. He seems pretty calm around people, though he has tried to bite me when he was hungry (he eats every 5-6 days).
He already shed for the first time about a week ago, so now he's pretty bright in coloration.
(When I very first got him I accidentally left his sack open.)
Does anybody else here on BYC have pet snakes, or really any reptile they'd like to talk about?
