Hi,

My chook has had 2 issues for the past couple of weeks.
She is around 2 years (I don’t know what breed as she is a rescue)

She sounded like she had an upper respiratory tract problem with a fluid sound and an occasional sneeze. Nothing produced, no discharge, no difficulty breathing. Eating and drinking, her poop is normal and well in herself.
I started her on Tylan as a precaution in case she had an infection and also wormed her as a precaution.
Today I noticed these spots on her comb.
I’m unsure if the 2 issues are related and how I move forward to treating her.
I have 4 chooks that free range, aged 9,4,2 and 2.
They eat layers pellets, corn and free range in a large garden.
Only other oddity is that both the 2 year olds (both rescues) stopped laying eggs 3 months ago after being regular layers.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Welcome To BYC

Have her respiratory symptoms improved with the Tylan?
Crop emptying?

As for the comb, it looks like "yitch" that has come out of the pores of the comb. It's almost like "Zit Material". For some reason it seems more common in birds that have all those crevices. Perhaps oil and dirt accumulate, I don't know.
I'd pick it out material then apply your BluKote as suggested.

We don't need a firm diagnosis to treat things. In fact, sometimes we manage to "narrow" it down to two or three different causes and we treat for all three sometimes if the treatments don't conflict.

The stuff on the comb could be fowl pox or a fungus. Blu-kote will treat both safely.

If it doesn't clear up in a week or two, then try Vaseline on the chance the lesions are caused by skin mites. There. That's three treatments.

This isn't life threatening, so try not to worry about it.

Thank you, I will do as you recommend. ☺️
