What an eggciting day. We have 7 eggs today from our 8 pullets. 10 babies chick's in the brooder and a dozen eggs in the incubator on day 9.

My pullets are no longer free loading.

My marans is laying beautiful dark brown eggs almost the color of milk chocolate.

Thank you. It has been a long 30 weeks, waiting for them to all lay their eggs.

I am enjoying the wee ones.
A lot of times they will wait through the winter, so you wait longer, but it also gives their bodies more time to grow and develop before having to turn on the egg production line. So as hard as it is to wait, this is actually a good thing for their overall development!

I don't have any chicks yet this year so I'm having to live off the cute pictures everyone else is posting, so keep em coming!

I was pretty sure about the upper one but didn't see the second one. These are my first fertilized eggs. One is from my Marans and the other from one of the Wynadottes.

Thank you all for your time and help.

That's great! Congrats!

Congrats on your fertile eggs, then. How long has your roo been in with the girls?
If these are your first ones it may take a few more days for the others to be fertile.

I don't know the exact science in it, but a female that's been laying has a few eggs already in production process when a male mates. So these first few will not be fertilized.

Not an expert on this but gave it a shot...🙂

My cockerel is the same age as the girls. He was suppose to be a pullet. They were all raised together. My girls started laying in late December. Only one of the 8 still hadnt laid yet. I been checking eggs periodically to see if he's spreading his seed yet. His name is Sesame.
