I'm thinking a banana. I want to put a decent amount of money away into a vet fund so that's where a lot of it is going.

my parents are more of the "let nature take it's coarse" kind of people with anything other than a cat or dog

Things may have changed by now but when I had reptiles it was impossible to find a vet that could treat them.
I once imported a Water Monitor and it had to be quarantined and given some injections for a couple weeks. I can't remember what the injections where for but the vet killed my lizard because the kind he gave it was meant for cats not reptiles.
I was so mad then they sued me for not paying the bill. Ya right I'm gonna pay you for killing my pet. After a year or so I won the suit.
