I purchased 6 speckled sussex from a straight run at tsc. Compared to my barred rocks sexing these guys is next to impossible. It started with 4 having their tail feathers come in and 2 kinda being much slower. So I kinda guessed 2 cockerels to 4 pullets... not the most exact science and it doesn't really matter what I end up with tbh. But I swiftly fell in love with one bird in particular. He/she is named potato. Mind you I don't generally name them as I try to think of them as livestock. But this bird has run up to me from day one wanting to be picked up held and cuddled. The speckled seem to be much friendlier than any of my barred rocks but this one in particular would take a nap in the collar of my shirt and just enjoyed being with me and still comes running if I say their name. Now I fear it may be a cockerel. I won't mind if he stays friendly I'll just have to be ready to slim the male ratio to include him but I'm just concerned he/she will lose that lovey dovey nature if it's a cockerel. Now the two I suspected to be cockerels I'm pretty much 100% sure they are now and their combs and wattles are still bigger than potatoes but the comb on potato has started to pink up compared to the other 3 pullet suspects. First picture is potato second is my basically confirmed male 3rd picture is one of the suspected pullets. I will attempt to go get better pictures of potato from different angles

All of these are potato. Even if it's a cockerel maybe some good insight into hormonal changes and if this bird will just flip and no longer be as friendly.

How old? Just comparing her/him to the obvious cockerel, it looks it may be a pullet, depending on age. The white chest feathers are a little concerning though, as cockerels tend to be whiter there.

For reference my what I'm pretty certain is a cockerel

At six weeks I think the one in question is a pullet, although it’s still a little early.
