spigot in a 5 gallon bucket

Well I am trying to put a spigot into a 5 gallon bucket. I cannot get it to not leak and I am using washers, gaskets, and teflon tape on the threads. What can I do to get the spigot to stop leaking, or is there a better way to put a bulk head in a bucket?

Is the bucket Plastic or Metal ???

Metal you can always braze to get a good solid seal

Plastic is a bit different as you really need a flat surface on
both sides if the spigot

Do you have a photo of what you are working on so we can
better see what you are working on before anyone gives advice

Use a Uniseal. They are designed for installing pvc pipe through curved (and straight) surfaces. They take seconds to install, they do not require silicone and they never leak. You can find them online and sometimes at your local Ace hardware. Best of all, they're cheaper than a bulkhead.

Now I see what you are talking about that is a nice set up as I had something totally different in mind about what you were describing ...

This is a great idea, thank you. I just got some aquarium bulk heads from a local store and they work like a champ. No leaks and now I am not frustrated. its awesome. I may use this idea when I expand my pens. Thak you for all the great ideas. I used a plastic bucket. In the future I plan on using a 55 gallon drum and watering all my birds with it and pvc with horizontal nipples. Mind you I have around 150 different pens that are going to need water. So this will make watering, and supplimenting much much easier. Plus it will be a simple system to clean out if needed. Thanks again al.

I have been sitting here drawing me up some plans with some plastic 50 gallon drums with some pipe and then thinking how it could work and for this idea I thank you as it would make it where I could leave for a week with out worry as it get's really hot up here in the summer and I spend a good amount of time just watering the animals and once I tried the float but found it could get stuck and the water bill went up so high and water is so expensive here that that was put to a side in the shed ....

Gladvonebof my ideas could help. It's nice to have chores cut down to 5 minutes. Other then I find I still need to spend time in the barn for my enjoyment and for the benefit if my birds.
