After taking spirulina myself I was wondering if anyone gives spirulina to their chickens? I’ve had a hard time finding anything online about it.

The supplement I’m taking now is called NOW, haha.

It’s organic, but I know not everything humans consume should be given to animals.

Just out of curiosity what everyone’s thoughts are or experiences.

Thank you.

Spirulina seems to be a super food and have fed it to aquarium fish as a supplemental treat before.

I wouldn't expect it to cause any harm though I personally wouldn't add it to my chickens feed and increase my cost of keeping even further. I provide adequate nutrition via formulated feed and not diminished by low quality (nutrient) treats.

I would consider using it as a supplement if I had bird that seemed like they could use a little help in the health department... like after an injury or illness. Maybe even for broody setters.

After taking it yourself... how long now? Notice any major difference? :pop

I’ve been taking it for probably about 5 years now. I don’t always buy it every time I’m out as it can be pricy - but I do notice my skin clears up when I’m taking it and I’ve had bad allergies all my life and it definitely helps during allergy season! :)
