In the Brooder

Can you tell me what this is all about? I'm at a loss.

One of my quail chicks had splayed legs on day 1. Bandaged them like I've done to many other birds in the past. He is now 7 days old. Splayed legs are fixed.
Eats, drinks, poops fine. Hangs out and naps with the others fine BUT his breathing is way faster than everyone else. He'll be anywhere in the brooder(close or far away from the heat lamp), half the time he'll breath normal but the other half he'll be breathing fast(sometimes panting) and everytime he lays down his breathing goes twice as fast. I've never seen this before and really hoping it's not some sort of sickness.
Any input is much appreciated!
Thank you! :)

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Sounds more like internal issues than illness. If there were splayed legs there could be other complications that we can't detect. That's why I personally choose to cull those hatched with disabilities... I don't want things breeding forward in my stock. And if splay were truly just a hatch complication and not genetic then why don't I see in more birds when one does present?

Rapid breathing is a sign of some sort of stress.

7 days is a long tie though. Hopefully he will get stronger and thrive for you! :fl
