Hello all! I am considering breeding and hatching eggs to keep or even potentially sell and I am looking to see if anyone has a list of what breeds make certain chickens or even if someone can guide me to a site that would give me that information. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Are you looking to keep purebred chickens, or cross breeds to make something like sex links?
I will be totally honest when I say I am not sure? I am just starting to do my research on all of this and I am working on finding out popular breeds/ good egg layers that I would be able to sell and I haven't been able to find that information in one spot. I'm sure I am just not looking in the right places so I was hoping someone knew where I could go to find that info.

As far as popular breeds go, that will depend on your local market. Some locations people seem to want the latest fad, expensive breed and in other locations people just want the tried and true good layers. Of course you should take your personal preferences in chickens into account too. No sense raising birds you don't like.

You may want to check out Henderson's Chicken Chart for starters. It doesn't have every breed but a lot of the more common ones are there. It has laying ability, egg color, temperament, varieties, and if available the author's experience with the breed.

If there are any breeds in particular you want more detailed info on you can check out the various hatchery pages for more information on their strains. If you look under the "Reviews" tab above you can get reviews on breeds from members here. There are more pictures of breeds at feathersite - https://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/BRKPoultryPage.html#Chickens

If you are interested in creating your own sex linked chicks read the first post in this thread. It describes how to make red and black sex links as well as feather sexable chicks. This is a possibility if you live in an area where many cannot have roosters, and buyers are looking for pullets only. You would have to have a plan for all those cockerel chicks though.
