I have 6 squirrels that I'm thawing out to cook tomorrow and there is hair stuck all over them.

I tried washing it off but its not working.....I need some advice

I've been eating/cooking squirrel for as long as I can remember. Try soaking it in cool water and everyonce in a while rub them, rinse, change water. If that doesn't work try hot water soak. You may have to pick each hair off one by one or burn it off. Their hair is very fine and for some reason their meat is very sticky. Good luck. Oh if this is your first time eating them, they get dry very easy so be careful when preparing.

Thank you so much!

I've had squirrel before but never noticed all the hair on the meat. I guess DH was in a hurry this time or something.

I know DH cuts the skin on their back then pretty much rips it off.... lol sorry...can't really explain it any better.

We've always picked the hair off under running water...it's easier that way because the water immediately flushes the very fine and sticky hairs from your fingers. Would have been much easier, of course, if they had been cleaned before freezing...

I'm not sure if your hubby cleans the same way I do but my chore as the youngest hunter when I was a little girl was to dress the squirrels for dinner. I don't recall ever getting more than a few hairs on them. Ill try to describe as best I can. First cut the tail from underneath through bone but not all the way through the hide. Grab by back legs step on tail and pull up kinda removing the 'shirt' down to head and paws so to speak. This leaves something that looks like pants so then from the belly side grip the 'waistband' and remove pants to paws. Cut off head and paws then cut open belly and remove innards. Hope this helps from having another hairy situation.
