stag is young male 5-11 months old..cock is beyond that..
though many still label a stag on young males passing the
11 months of age..depends on the breed of what the animal

Yep, stag is the same as a cockerel, which is a "rooster" at less than 1 year old, a cock being one older than 1 yr old.

I myself call any "cockerel" of Gamefowl type a Stag, no matter their current use.
