I know there are no true 100% Japanese Yamato-gunkei in the US. GFF was offering what they called Yams, but were not true Yams, at best they were Ko x Yam-Gun, though I have heard that they mixed Asil in there. I have been very lucky to acquire a stag and hen that have around 75% pure Japanese Yam-Gun genetics in them. Thanks to GFF and imported eggs. I am mainly writing this in hopes of finding others who may have high percentage Yam-Gun genetics in their Ko Guns, and would be interested in building up each others genetics.
Hen line is
GFF (Ko x Gun) hen x import (eggs) stag
Best produced hen x import -f1
Best produced hen x import -f2 (my acquired hen who is 2 years old).
Stag line is f2 x import, he is coming up on one year this summer.
I claim only 75% Yam-Gun genetics due to not truly knowing what GFF was offering originally. GFF has been known to fudge a few (important) things, so I don't really count on them to be honest with what they truly have, though I do believe they had SOME Yam-Gun genetics as the chicks displayed the very same behavior and issues as such.
I am not sure if I will ever be confident enough in these genetics to ever call them true Yams. I don't mean to be a snob, but I belive true Yams would require two 100% true Japanese parents.
These genetics are approved by the APA/ABA, only because the APA/ABA categorizes all bantam Shamo varieties as just Shamo Bantams (Ko and Yamato regarded as the same).
If anyone has any Yamato-Gunkei genetics they would be interested in swapping, please let me know.
Thank you!
