(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am not totally new to chickens. I actually had some for about 3 years. Unfortunately I started losing them one by one due to coyotes, stray cats, raccoons, and a drunk driving through my coop. I started traveling and havent been back home for any length of time. I will be going back home for good in August and I am eager to get some feathered friends!! I found them so relaxing and could just sit outside and watch them all day. I will be ordering my chickens late August in hopes to have them at the end of August or very first of September.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I am planning to purchase them online from tractor supply again, so that I can be sure to get all females. I will be ordering 10 and see where it goes from there.

(3) What breeds do you have?

I am going back and forth between ordering Easter Eggers or assorted color egg chicks. I am leaning more toward the assorted egg color because it has an variety of chicks including; Americana, Cuckoo Marans, French Black Copper Marans, Midnight Majesty Marans, Prairie Bluebell Eggers, Olive Eggers, Sapphire Olive Eggers or Starlight Green Eggers. I had easter eggers last time and I loved them, but I think I want to have a variety of chicks.
As soon as they come in I will start posting pictures of them.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

Watching them grow and thrive. I think they are so fun to watch, especially when they get excited about something. I like to watch them explore. Also, I love fresh eggs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I love the outdoors, hiking, playing pickle ball, just being outside in general. I love to read.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have three dogs, a daughter that just moved out to go to graduate school, and a husband that just loves to give me a hard time about the chickens. He also loves to give me a hard time about reading, he likes to tease and pick. We are great together that way. lol I am a critical care nurse and I am planning to go back to school to further my career.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

Well, I accidentally found BYC when I had my last group of girls and was trying to learn more about raising chickens. I enjoyed reading what everyone had to say and how things were going for other coops. It helped with ideas and troubleshooting alot. There are some changes I want to make to this journey, so I figured I would come back and see what everyones experiences are like now, how much things have changed and what best practices and advice people have.

:welcome

Hi, sorry to read of your losses (a drunk drove through your coop?? crazy!). Hope things work out better for you this time around...make yourself at home!
Thank you! Yes unfortunately, it happened in the middle of the night after Christmas in 2020. What a way to wake up at 2 AM!!! The only silver lining out of the whole situation is, had not been for my chicken coop, he would have driven through my bedroom. My poor feathered babies!

Glad you didn't end up with the car in the house!
