Storing eggs....

Our girls started laying about a month ago. In most days we get 6 eggs daily. What is the best way to store the eggs? I have been putting them in the fridge but I heard a lot of people say to leave them out and it's better. I'd be fine with leaving them out but which is the best way?

Refrigeration cuts down on bacteria growth. I'm not sure why so many people leave them out, I can't think of a single reason it's better.

That's what I was thinking and wanted to ask. I was just surprised at how many people say they leave theirs out. So I wanted to ask being we are new to this all.

From what I have heard you can do either way. I have a rooster so I always refrigerate mine. You don't have to but it is warmer here so I don't want anything to be happening inside my shells. You can leave them out on the counter if you wish, not sure how long you can leave them there. I prefer to keep them cool well... like I said, because they have the possibility that they might become chicks and also because you ( I think) can keep them up to two months if they are cooled. If yours have been cooled you can feel them. If you touch one and lift your finger and there is mosture on the egg you need to keep them cool. If you don't get moisture go ahead and put them on the couter. I don't know how long but it is a very short time after you put them in the refrigerator that they will need to stay in there. I hope this helped and i hope I have my facts right.

originally we used those empty egg cartons

but to save space i'll just put them all in the rubbermaid containers right after


i'm not sure if it's true but they said something about

1 day outside is = 1 week in the fridge

Optimal long term storage, do not wash, put in an airtight container, and refrigerate.

The bloom seals the egg, airtight container minimizes exposure, cold hampers bacteria growth.

Any other method is a compromise.
