Stormcrow's Hobby Farm

Mostly.

Spent the day on the tractor, fixing the driveway, rebuilding two water bars. Got the burnable trash taken care of (paper plates, feed bags, etc), mulched in the blueberries, lemon thyme, mint (need 6 more bags of mulch), some minor clean up.

Took apart the stand mixer, needs new gear set.

Turkey gets another day.

Tommorow AM I deperately need to respond to people in the feed forums from three weeks ago...

Oh, and somewhere along the way, in addition to getting bit up by mosquitos, I apparently picked up a case of ringworm - which is a pretty visible indicator of just how run down I was that I could get what is, in essence, a yeast infection. Grrrrrr.

Still need to take a goat, too. Actually, need to take two, but limited freezer space.
Stress can play havoc with your immune system.

Glad to hear that at least you're feeling better, if not 100%.

Health is something I do not take for granted any more. Remember the old Geritol ads with the tag line, "Because when you've got your health, you've got just about everything." My mom said that was very true, and I didn't get it back then.

I get now, mom, really. I get it now.

HATE scalding and plucking, but... who ever served a turkey skinless for a holiday?
Night Boss at work took a deep fried turkey to inlaws.... they served sliced. He went in the kitchen and found they had taken the skin and wings off and threw in garbage can. He was still fit to be tied Monday evening.

16 to 20 wks is the recommended BB harvest start... depends how big of a bird you want.
I have had 2 BBB. Both arrive March 31 2016. I caught The jake squashing his BF cockerel , broke the back so the legs didn't work.
So anyway both boys were harvested I think end of August, maybe beginning of September. Both tasted great.
I tried to keep the hen for breeding, but she got to big over the winter. She was harvested Oct 2017. She was good too.

5 blueberries bedded in and mulched, 5 lemon thyme between them (good companion plant, also useful in cooking). All around a mint (which will eventually take over the bed most likely, displacing the thyme, but is also a decent companion plant for blueberries). ONE healthy thyme would easily meet my cooking needs, but its pretty fragile till established - so I planted extras, with bunny gold and a lot of hope.

Why lemon thyme instead of regular (english) thyme? Because I use it with other "citrus" flavors - cumin, corriander, etc.

Oh, also grocery shopping, the aforementioned freezer camping of the big turkey, and repaired the tractor (lost a pin to the three point, which is why the flail mower was bouncing around). and 40# of grass seed on the driveway where I built the new water bars. Weeded around the peaches and apples.

All in all, not a lazy day.
