strange peacock behavior

I did have it but that was 3 phones ago. That was actually one of the funniest things I’ve seen. He would kick him and land right back on his tail and keep on going. The peacock couldn’t get away from him no matter what he did.
The rooster found out it was a fun ride!

I agree it was most likely getting a response to the behaviour shown. We used to have a bunch of mean guineas that would ride the peacock's train. They started out chasing a Royal Palm turkey to the point of exhaustion, the guinea got a broken neck. Then they chased off one of our free-range peacocks. They tried to run off another but then they got lead poisoning. The last time it happened the peacock killed the guinea. We haven't seen any bad behaviour for a few years now.
Wow. Guineas and peafowl are related so would that have been why the guineas focused on peacock, I wonder?

I doubt they are cognizant of that. However we like to have chicken hens brood and raise keets, those keets are more likely to roost and lay in the chickenhouse. They also stay with the hen grazing and seem to yap less. We also have two guinea hens that were raised with peas and they identify themselves as peahens and want to get back in with the yearling peas in their pen. They ignore the other guineas for the most part but they are laying their infertile eggs just outside the peas pen door.

OK, NOW he's being aggressive towards Pearl, our Charcoal peahen! Same thing...she's white...some black and a little gray. This is starting to become annoying. What a doofus.

So, I'm pretty sure there's something hormonal behind this, but it's just weird. Our peacock is almost two years old and he thinks he's a stud muffin.
Right now, he's very hormonal. Today, he's started harassing one of our roosters. This rooster is pretty big, 8 or 9 lbs, and he's a Lakeshore Egger,
so he's white with a lot of differemt gray and black markings....he's got spots, speckles, stripes, and a lot of pattern in his black and gray tail. Fawkes the peacock was trying to attack him in the barn, but once they were outside, Fawkes just followed Dinali the rooster. ALL day. Didn't try to hurt him outside..just followed him everywhere and sort of danced around him. Well, the rooster, I'm guessing, was somewhat confused by this..he'd trot away a couple steps, and sometimes run for awhile to get away, but finally for the most part just tried to ignore the peacock. The chicken hens would not go near the two of them. Finally I decided Dinali the rooster might like a break, so I shooed Fawkes away...but he wouldn't really leave the scene. . I assumed that when he had a clear path, Dinali the rooster would head off to somewhere else. But he didn't. He stood around and waited for Fawkes to come back....then they walked off together again. But they're not friends. Tonight, at roosting time, I could not find Dinali, although Fawkes was present, with the peahens and other chickens. He does not bother the other roosters, although he's thought about bothering two of our other roosters who are similarly marked. When the peafowl were younger, they were all afraid of Dinali, but there didn't seem to be any reason for that either, and they aren't afraid of him now.

I remember one of our other peacocks, Sapphire, used to do the same thing to another rooster we had, who was a Dominique and so had a black and white bar pattern. (both of them are no longer with us). I don't remember if it was at the same time of year, but certainly during the warmer months, so still within breeding season.

So what is it about roosters with black and white markings? Do the peafowl see that as a different color than we do, , or something threatening? I'm guessing that they must view the black and white roosters as rivals...but why? And why not other colors?? He gets along fine with everyone else. The peahens don't really care about the roosters at all.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Just curious!!
A peacock showed up in our yard 2 yares ago.
We got a puppy who chased and barked at him.
The peacock comes over to the dogs fenced area and lays down the dog barks and the peacock acts like it will peck him but never has.
The peacock even enters the dogs area and ignores the dog and eats grass as the dog barks and runs around him
Neither has hurt the other

Also the dog is mostly white with black and brown

Your black and white rooster probably doesn’t show submissive behavior fast enough for his liking so he just keys in on him. I watch my peacock do it all the time with young roosters all summer long til they decide they aren’t afraid of him anymore which is always a huge surprise to him.

I really think it has something to do with the black and white color, not how submissive they are. Our other peacocks did the same with our Dominique rooster....also black and white flashy pattern, of course. I've never seen the peacocks really try to intimidate the roosters, they just kind of ignore each other...except for certain ones. No one acts afraid of the peacocks.

I figured that, but my question was: Why the color? Why is it always black and white roosters? Do they look at that pattern and think that it most closely resembles theirs? And if so, why? We have a few roosters of different colors, some he never bothers. Just the black and white one.
My peacock has just started bullying my two black australorp roosters. He is losing his tail feathers right now. He has a peahen. Mean boy, I hope this passes cause I like having them all free ranging and playing happy families ☹️
