How do you all make your stuffed cabbage? Do you simmer it on the stove or in the oven? Do you use sauerkraut or tomato sauce or tomato soup?

I canned about 20 jars of tomatoes in juice. I'm thinking of simmering the rolls in some of that.

I make cabbage rolls if that is what you are talking about.....I boil the whole leaves first for just a few so the bend easier. Then I roll some mix in each leaf and put in a glass dish 9x13 and then I do put some sort of tomato sauce/diced tomatoes over them with spices of your liking so they don't dry out. You can put them in a crock pot same way which I like a lot basically steams them. I have used enchilada sauce over the top with diced mexican spiced tomatoes and that is really good too.

Good luck!

When I make stuffed cabbage (cabbage rolls) I make such a quantity that a baking dish or crock pot just isn't big enough! I use a huge stock pot. I was just curious about different methods used.

You can do the ways I mentioned the same way in a stock pot....if you want in the oven maybe one of those big 25 pound turkey roasting metal pans would be big enough. I would say experiment with different sauces with small batches first if you are not sure they will be liked with a certain sauce you try.

I boil cabbage leaves to soften, make the cabbage rolls, then finish them in the oven with a jar of home canned tomato sauce.

Your tomato juice should work just fine. It just won't be as thick for serving or spooning over the finished dish.

I also like the enchilada sauce idea. We can our own enchilada sauce - so I'll have to try it on cabbage rolls.

sounds like you are making what my mom called pigs. I cook them in sauerkraut and tomato juice. precook cabbage. roll hamburger mix( like you would do for meatballs) up in the leaves lay in sauerkraut and tomato juice. I use a roaster or large stock pot. cook gently til hamburger is done.

I mix ground beef and ground Italian sausage in mine... I also put a bit of red pepper in mine for a bit of zing... then I put a bit of tomatoe sauce and parmeasan cheese in the meat/rice mixture, then cover the cabbage rolls with more tomatoe sauce and more parmeasan cheese.. and bake them...slow for about two hours or more. I put a spin on the polish Golabki

I dont roll mine I really dont have time.In the morning before I go to work I brown sausage or burger and onion put in crockpot. Then quarter a head of cabbage and the cut each quarter in half again and
put over browned meat add 1 jar of homemade spaghetti sauce and 1 cup of water.season salt and pepper .Then when I get home I add 2 cup of instant brown rice and turn off let the rice soak up excess juice.and serve an hour or so later.
