Sudden deaths

In the past week, two of my birds mysteriously died. They were free ranging, and I put them back in their yard. Everyone was fine then when I went to lock the henhouse up when I went to put them in for the night, one was dead in the yard and then a week later I opened the henhouse to let them out and there is a dead bird on the coop floor. we’ve never had any kind of illnesses before outside of the usual egg bound and one case of water belly but this is scaring me. I have four ducks, a goose and now eat chickens left two roosters, and 6 hens
 
Sorry for your loss. What is your general location? How old were the chickens that died? Did they still lay eggs? Were either one molting or were they recently molting? What did you feed? Have you seen any lice or mites on them? Were their crops emptying normally overnight? Having geese ducks and chickens together could bring about some bullying or being kept from eating. If you lose a chicken, the best way to find a cause of death is to ask your state poultry vet lab to do a necropsy on the body. Here is a list of state vets:
