Is there truly a difference between geese marketed as super african geese and geese marketed as african geese?
I was under the impression from some of the hatcheries that super Africans are bigger and stronger than normal Africans but then I also read somewhere that they're the same.
So I'm a little confused and some clarification would be appreciated

They are not the same. Some hatcheries sell both. A Super African is basically a pure breed African goose. They have dewlaps. The ones that people sell as just Africans almost always lack the dewlap. A pure breed should have it. Many geese sold as Africans are really Chinese geese.

I had 2 Super Africans. Even as goslings there was a huge difference between them and the Africans across the street. My two day old goslings were larger than the neighbor's week old goslings.

I do miss my Africans. They were wonderful watch geese. First sign that we had a cougar in the neighborhood was when my Africans got taken. We do not normally get cougars.

Thanks for your reply! Did you notice if they ate significantly more considering they are bigger?

I would only guess that a larger bird would eat more. I only had 2 geese whereas my neighbor had 30 of a variety of breeds. I would guess if you only had a few geese that you would not notice the difference. Remember, geese are grazers. They eat grass in the fields during the warm weather. So during the summer you would be feeding very little.

A Super African and an African are essentially the same goose. Super Africans are considered "show quality" and therefore cost more. Regular Africans are the same size, weight, temperament, etc. but are not considered show quality.

But really, I've seen both and I can't tell the difference for the life of me.
