Has she been laying? Is she eating well?
I’ve only experienced ascites twice and it’s been with geese, Thor’s was due to heart failure and his symptoms “lethargy, appetite loss, open mouth breathing, exercise intolerance” appeared before he he started getting ascites. As for Parsnip, his is due to some “unknown issue with his pancreas” and he was fairly ill and not eating well before he began accumulating fluid. Since he’s weirdly been fine despite carrying around a beach ball of fluid and the only thing that makes him ill now is when I drain the fluid and then he swells up more than he was before.

What that looks like Dougie has is similar to Truffle’s pouch, mind you he’s a drake though, and with him it’s fat. Truffle is my Pesto, he’s larger than both his parents and has extra chub.

And this is my Moo Deng…

Yes, she lays consistently and has a normal appetite
Her behaviour has always been normal, energetic and always hungry! The only concern I have is the size of her abdomen, which seems to be pretty unchanging.
I'm curious, what does Truffle's tummy look like from in front? Is it rounded or does it hang like excess skin?

It depends on how he stands, if his legs are spread wide it’s round, the rest of the time it kinda just hangs, almost pointed.

Just a simple tummy picture, that’s all I asked for, but first I get:

These are the best I can manage unfortunately 😂

Here’s a decent tummy pic, it’s kinda hanging here too.View attachment 4001676
To me as long as he is eating fine and moving around fine I would not worry. If there was a major problem I would think it would affect his appetite and actions. He resembles some of the males I have had and they were all just fine. He is really beautiful.

Thank you but I’m not too worried for Trufflesaurus, he’s just a chubby boy. I was posting pics in the hope of alleviating @BelovedBirds worries for Dougie who I’m pretty sure just thicc too.

I'm annoyed today, I walked by a duck pond at a local golf course yesterday, and saw an abandoned duck... too dark to take a photo and there's really nothing at all I can do, it's all fenced off and too large to try and catch them, they're far too skittish. I would need kayaks and nets, etc etc, which would be forbidden. But I'm so cross that people do this.

My first thought was black swedish drake but I think it may have been a hen as no visible drake curl, hard to see in such poor lighting. Seemingly a black body, greenish tint on the head, white bib and a bit of white scattered around the neck. Perhaps a mixed breed? Larger than the mallards.

At least this place has signs on feeding the ducks proper duck food, has duck food available in a nearby cafe, and the pond is fenced off to prevent dogs and foxes getting in. (A new thing due to past issues).
The drake Curl isn’t always there
My boys loose them and sometimes don’t get them back till next molt
So frustrating people do this !

Hey guys
I had a family reach out on a Facebook group
They have a duck that’s got Niacin deficiency ( really bad )
They are new to ducks and just hatched her June 20
They had no idea about this issue
She use ti walk but was shaky
Now she can’t walk at all
Her feet are curling up and her right leg stays out
She uses her wings to get around
She was in much worse shape 2 months ago as she couldn’t move her neck and that’s when they found online about niacin
They did start niacin pills in feed and her neck did start working but her legs are still in bad shape
She can paddle to swim in water
She eats and drinks well
I offered to try to help her
They drove 4.5 hours today to bring her ti me
I have durvet B compex here plus niacin pills and nutritional yeast
I also can do swim therapy 3 times a day
Has anyone read or heard of a duck recovering once it gets to this point
This little girl who loves this duck was so upset
I’m going to do all I can to help this duck and hopefully be able to send her home

All I can say is give her time and keep giving the B complex, niacin is critically important but so are the other Bs, and maybe start her on a multi vitamin also in case she has another deficiency.
