Looking for some affirmation that this Swedish Flower is a cockerel. It's about 12-13 weeks old and doesn't have the face of a lighter SF hen that is about 4 weeks older. This one's comb and wattles are more developed. I'm not sure about the 'pointy feather' thing with these, and I don't have a good basis for comparison. No crowing (yet?).

Thanks!

About how long does it take for 'obvious' hackle or saddle feathers to develop? I'll go out and give them a good look, and maybe keep it around (or one of the OE cockerels) to watch them develop some more.

Thanks!

Looks like a cockerel to me. He's got the dark red shoulders. It's still a bit early for male saddle feathers to be obvious.

I agree. The comb and wattles are also too red for a pullet at that age. As far as the saddle feathers go, it can vary somewhat by breeds but for most breeds the male saddle feathers will start being obvious around 15 weeks or so.

Thanks for the info y'all!

Yes, I do believe that is a rooster/cockerel because of the stringy feathers around it’s neck. I couldn’t tell what they meant by pointy feathers or V-shaped combs either when I was trying to find the gender of my polish chicken. It took me 4 months to be sure of what he was😂 and that was just because he started crowing
