About 30 minutes ago, I noticed my chicken, (BBS Orpington who is 1 year old (TODAY!)), Eleanor’s eye looked strange. it’s swollen all around her eye, but I don’t see any other symptoms that I’ve read about with infectious Coryza (though I’ve never seen it first hand). Her behavior has not changed, other than she didn’t lay an egg today and she’s one of my more regular layers. She was free ranging in the yard when I got home and she ate treats when she came in the run. No other hens in my flock of five have any symptoms. First picture is Eleanor usually. Second is her this evening. Thanks in advance for any input on identifying what’s wrong and how to treat!

Could she have been stung by something or pecked? Do you see any bubbles or foam in the eye, or crusty drainage around the eye? I don’t see any in the picture. Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) can also cause swelling of the eyelid or face, and that is a sinus infection from a chronic respiratory disease. It can cause those symptoms. If a sting is possible, I might consider giving a one time dose of Benadryl 1/2 of a 25 mg tablet.

Thank you for such a quick reply. It’s very well possible she was stung or pecked! I do not see any bubbles/foam/crusties. Her other eye is also fine! I decided to see how the tincture of time went overnight, and here’s how she’s looking today. I think there’s been a slight improvement?
