I have several chickens who are super stubborn about basically living in a nesting box. Common enough it seems like. I caught one of them going outside the other day and realized that there was something very wrong with her foot.
She has black scabs on her toes, and her skin is cracking and seems fairly damaged. The foot is swelling enough in the middle that it is pushing her toes out in weird directions.
I first thought it was bumblefoot. In fact, I even stupidly tried to cut into the top of the swollen part on what I thought was the "black spot", but it was not... there is no infection inside as far as I can tell. I disinfected, and bandaged her up, and gave her a few days to recover before messing with her again. I've been soaking her foot in Epsom salts for 15 minutes every couple of days
Her other foot is fine, and I don't see any sign of issues with my other chickens. Could her foot have been crushed? Frost bite? I can't quite find pictures online that look like this...
