Has anyone one else who purchased barred rock chicks from TSC experiencing hyper aggression… like repeatedly biting my hand so hard it hurts when I try to lower the feed into their brooder? I have tried the finger snap back and it stops them for about a day. I thought this breed was supposed to be chill. I had a really bad experience with a RIR rooster and so tried to get more docile breeds. And before anyone asks, yes I’m very gentle with them.

All my "rocks" have been very friendly:hmm
Do you socialize with them often every day? Are you holding them and talking to them? Because if you go without socializing with them even for the first few days of their life, they will be very afraid of you. I'm sure the little guy isn't doing it out of purposeful aggression but rather it's frightened (or perhaps it is aggressive and the chick is a male that is confronting you if you know what I mean.)

My TSC Barred Rocks were handled a lot as chicks and they still were slightly aggressive. Food was a big motivator for them. Reminded me of a starving dog, like they were scared the food would disappear or be stolen. My hen settled after she started laying. The rooster just got worse so he was let go.
