So... I was doing some woodworking in the garage the other day with a saw. The saw slipped, and I dropped it. It nicked a stored away tent. The damage wasn't too bad, but did go through a few spots which means I need to sew it up.

I wondered... would it work to use a hot glue gun to glue patches over the little cuts in the tent? There's like 4 or 4 cuts, all very small and not very penetrative but probably like 4 inches long each. In the past I just got a needle and thread to sew them up. But I wanted to probe if anyone has just tried using a hot glue gun, with glue sticks? (Or I could even mix both methods possibly...)

Thanks.

...

Also, would sun exposure over time weaken a glue gun repair?

We've never used hot glue to fix our tents but have used Flex tape when the rips were little. The tape kept out water very well. We put a piece on the inside and outside of the tent

We used Gorilla brand waterproof patching tape.

I doubt the glue from a glue gun would last.
Very cool... how long will that kind of patching tape last on a patch?

I also forgot to mention in the original post that the tent in question hadn't ever been used yet. So that was a frustration and why I wanted to patch it so much since it didn't even have any mileage yet.

Any idea how long the flex tape will hold for on a repair? Thank you.

For many years. It's now been several years since we put the tent in the garage as we bought a camper so don't know if it's still on there but I bet it is. That stuff is very tough! We used it to weatherproof the windows in the coop too.
