Terramycin in water for new chicks?

Ok, so I'm returning the game bird chick starter that is not medicated (i think she was trying to help me save $$ b/c it was on sale for $13 for a 50lb. bag b/c it had a rip in the bag).. but also they were out of the medicated chick starter.

I called mypetchicken.com and they said they highly recommend getting the medicated feed b/c the chicks will not be vaccinated against cocc. and it's so prevalent and will wipe out all of my chicks if they get it. I will keep the antibiotics on hand (just in case, as suggested). And I will get the feeder and waterer the sales person talked me out of.

I really appreciate being able to have so much advice from all of you who responded. I'm so new to this so a "multitude of counselor's" is tremedously helpful. I want to do it right... thanks for your wisdom!

I experienced the same thing with TSC and I called around and found a feed store that has been in business for over 50 years and TSC is their main competitor. My local feed store is awesome! It is family owned and they raise many birds of all kinds; chickens, turkeys, ducks. Anyways, so far they have been really helpful and honest about everything. My advice as I am a newbie as well, is to find a local feed store that is still the "mom and pop" kind. And the prices are withing a buck of each other so it is not like I am spending more for the same stuff at my local feed store. Also, I get to help out he small guy!

Thank you! I'm headed to a place called "Farm and Ranch" today and hopefully that'll be more of the mom/pop store... I've never even been in any of these stores, so this is all new to me
