Thai Game Fowl (Photos)

How do Thai roosters do in a mixed flock with other roosters? Will they tolerate the other roosters, or will they fight them?

Guarantee he will fight and try to conquer the flock. Once he conquers the flock and the other roosters knows then maybe they can stay together. But it all depends on how game and aggressive your bird is.

The Thai I have , even the hens will kill each other and cannot be kept together. I have had hens kill cockerels on several occasions, as well as other hens. They do ok if raised together until the cockerels hit maybe 12-20 weeks, somewhere in there, a switch flips, and I end up with one cockerel left when I get home from work if I'm not careful to separate them sooner. The pulleys are usually ok together until the go broody and hatch chicks, after that, they can never be with other mature females again.

The Thai chickens I have came from a flock where they were all free ranging together... They seemed to be doing ok. Maybe they are a different strain of Thai.

I've been told more than once by breeders more knowledgeable than myself that some lines, or strains of Thai are essentially just utility birds, not used for sporting purposes, simply for meat and eggs. Even if most of your birds are content to live together, I would still at least consider the chance that some of them, at some point, may decide to stop tolerating each other. As I said, I can keep females together until I separate them for brooding purposes. If I never separated them, perhaps they would tolerate each other indefinitely . The males for certain will not tolerate each other after a certain age.

I think this strain is just a utility breed, mostly for meat/eggs. At least that's what the breeder told me. I bought them because I've read up on forums that Thai chickens have been bred to be super trainable, and that they are extremely smart and almost doglike toward their masters. I love my 4 little Thai pullets. They are stronger and faster and smarter than my pet flock. I'm hoping to create crossbreeds with the utility/beauty of the one breed, and the strength and foraging ability of the Thai.

Any of the pure Oriental breeds used as a parent of cross breeds with more typical chickens will provide greater hardiness, longevity , intelligence, calmer temperament , broodiness, strength, and in most cases more muscle, bone, size and vigor.
