Hey there!
I was inspired by great grandma and started raising layers maybe 12 years ago? Right now I have 7 (knock on wood). About to get 3 more chicks (fingers crossed). I have Barred rock, French black copper Marans, wheaten maran, olive egger, cinnamon queen and como?? and hoping to get a blue red laced Wyandotte and Speckles Sussex and another olive egger really soon. My favorites are the French black copper Marans though a New Hampshire Red (my very 1st hen, Big Bird) has had my heart since she was attacked by neighbor terriers and survived 3 days alone only to start laying double yolkers (after she was stitched up). I think that the girls are so much fun to hang out with. Me, the girls and my Rottweiler. They make me laugh when they make themselves aerodynamic and run. My daughter was here when I purchased my firsts. I am the only human here now but I do have my pooch. A rescued Rottweiler who helped me raise all but 2 of my hens. I adopted him 4 years ago from a kill shelter. He is very protective of them. I have a small pet grooming business (30 years) and I take him with me. This is a small town but I tend to stay busy with community service. Sometimes a couple of the same gals get into my garden and destroy it, but I do love gardening. My BF was meh about them and now he will do anything for them.
I have heard about BYC off and on, but just so busy with life. Love meeting y'all. It's a whole new world here, just when we need it most. Animals are everything imo.
I have already gotten a few more chicks. Haha, so 10.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I love how chickens win over people who didn't care a bit about them or didn't even want them in the first place. My husband was like that. I came home from work one day to find him sitting in a chair with the flock surrounding his feet while he whittled pear slices for them.
That is adorable!
