My goal is to breed high production blue eggers, high production olive eggers, and if possible perhaps a blue feathered bird with black lacing that has high production. Other outcomes to be easy sells. We are trying to make this easy as breeders to sell what's hot on the market.
I know I need to purchase more hens for the ratio. So, which hens should I purchase?
We have these roosters:
1. Sir Arthur - Easter Egger - no barring - white with the sussex black neck decor - 6 months old
2. Copper - Easter Egger - single barring - 6 months old on October 10th
3. Spike - Pure crested cream legbar - currently 5 months old
4. Holy Grail - Pure blue cuckoo maran - one year old
5. Frosty - Plymouth Barred Rock - 6 months old on November 10th
6. Monty Python - Heritage Plymouth Barred Rock - one year old
We have these hens:
1. Sigma - Blue cuckoo maran 6 months old October 10th
2. Chocolate - Blue cuckoo maran 6 months old October 10th
3. Squeak - Blue cuckoo maran 6 months old October 10th
4. Maple - Barred Rock - 6 months old on November 11th
5. Gingertail - Barred Rock - 6 months old on November 10th
6. Little Puff - Barred Rock - 6 months old on November 11th
7. Peppercorn - Barred Rock rooster over Silver Laced Wyandotte - 6 months old October 11th
8. Spirit Bird - Barred Rock rooster over Ameraucana, she started laying medium brown eggs with pink speckles - 6 months old
9. Eclipse - Yes born during the darkness of the Eclipse! - Barred Rock over Black Australorp - 6 months on October 8th
10. Cute Cuddle Buns - Barred Rock - 11 months old
11. Rosie - Ameraucana - one year old
12.Juliet - Silver Laced Wyandotte - 11 months old
13. Zoot - Silver Laced Wyandotte - 11 months old
There are lineages to watch out for to avoid line breeding:
1. Monty Python is the father of: Eclipse, Spirit Bird, Peppercorn, Little Puff, Gingertail, and Maple.
2. Copper is the brother of Spirit Bird, and the half brother of the following: Eclipse, Peppercorn, Little Puff, Gingertail, and Maple.
3. Frosty is the brother of Little Puff, Gingertail, and Maple. He is the half brother of the following: Eclipse, Spirit Bird, and Peppercorn.
We want to do the spiral breeding technique. We are most focused on easter eggers/olive eggers. Barred Rocks are a separate program.
What hens should I purchase to make this breeding program smooth sailing? We can buy 5 now. We'll buy more later.
