I am obsessed with horses, I don't own one but are also hoping to one day! I go to riding lessons. I really want to barrel race and do calf roping at a rodeo. I want a Quarter horse.

Thoroughbred and I had a part loan of an Anglo Arab for a while which I really enjoyed. I was hoping that would have lasted but it didn’t work out with him unfortunately as his owners had him put to sleep because he was extremely dangerous with the farrier.

I’ve got a retired thoroughbred Harry who is 28. I retired him from ridden work last year. He raced until he was 6 and I got him when he was 7. I’m extremely grateful to have been able to ride him for over 20 years. He’s like my second child!

I am currently riding a friends little coloured cob. She’s extremely steady even compared to a geriatric TB! But totally bombproof and you can take her anywhere. She also lives off fresh air so is cheap to keep feed wise.

I have started looking at other thoroughbreds straight from the track but won’t be able to keep another until Harry has passed on but that won’t be until he’s ready and not a day before.

Joining this thread a little late. I have two horses and a mule, although I care for seven. My paint mare is older and now retired, and very happy to sit in the pasture and make angry faces at me when I disturb her eating. My pony mule is six years old and full of attitude, but I love her all the same. My other horse is a crossbred gelding, who I board at a local dressage barn. He has his issues, but he tries his heart out and I adore him. I used to show a bit, but recently life has gotten a little crazy and my boy is not at that stage right now, so all showing is on hold for me right now.

I had a half Appaloosa half Thoroughbred called Spotnight. He was the biggest darling in the world!

I'm the same. My 29 year old Arab/Trakehner retired Eventer I've had since he was a foal. He was the first horse I ever started myself, and we had so many fun-filled years, not only eventing but camping in the wilderness as well. He has Cushing's, a bit of arthritis that is manageable, and is starting to lose his sight due to cataracts, but he is my best friend who has given me so much success and happiness in my life and he deserves a happy retirement. When the time comes that he is in pain or can't get around due to his sight I will say goodbye, but in the meantime we still have fun doing non-riding things.

My other horse is 25, an ex-racehorse, who is still sound for riding, even small jumping.

I also troll the "racehorses who are ready to retire" websites - there are so many good ones and more affordable than what the breeders and dealers offer, who would excel at Eventing. But realistically, I can't afford to take on another, and I am getting old, not as fit or as brave as I used to be, as much as I hate to admit that.

When I retire in 5-7 years, my old boy will probably no longer be with us, and my OTTB will probably be retired. At that time, I plan to get a medium pony and do driving and CDE. I have enough room to keep a pony on my property instead of paying for board, and driving is something I should be able to still do as I get more ancient. I'm learning about CDE in the meantime - it seems as fun as Eventing!
