Not worth a d@mn. I'll do a headcount later but I'm thinking only like 50%. No buffs hatched and only one from crele project.@The Moonshiner how did your hatch go?
You can feed an LGD extra roosters to cut down on dog food cost. They save you money on lost stock in the long run also. Our dogs eat a lot of raw poultry meat and bones when we cull extra roosters, as well as parts of the turkey and chicken carcasses that we don't eat. My friend is currently losing a chicken and/or a duck a day to varmints and hawks. An LGD is necessary where I live because of all the wooded areas surrounding our property. Without the dogs, we would lose all of our chickens and turkeys. Can't afford that due to current feed costs for the cats and the chickens. What I'm working on is hardware cloth on the whole pen and electricity that might kill them. I have a 6 to 9 joule fence charger that I'm not sure I want to use but may have no other choice.
Aww nuts! At least you have the Buff chicks from the last hatch, and hopefully your Buffs and Crele pullet will keep laying so you can hatch more. Our birds are looking pretty raggedy here and will start molting soon. Not worth a d@mn. I'll do a headcount later but I'm thinking only like 50%. No buffs hatched and only one from crele project.
I'm in a more manageable area on only an acre of land. It's getting pretty developed out here so that could be a problem with displaced wildlife. It's like rural subdivision where I am.You can feed an LGD extra roosters to cut down on dog food cost. They save you money on lost stock in the long run also.
