The Moonshiner's Leghorns

@Chookwagn I use different colored zip ties when the chicks are first born right out of the incubator. I separate eggs in mesh bags so they dont get mixed up, and I have 3 different hatchers I use when I have big hatches. Using the zip ties gives their toe webs time to toughen up a little and once they are a couple days old we toe punch them. They seem to bleed less at a couple days to a week old than when you toe punch them right out of the incubator. Then we wing band them at 2 weeks old and cut their zip ties off. I can wing band them when they are smaller but I dont prefer to. Its a lot easier once their wing webs are just a bit bigger.

Resting the Brown Leghorn eggs, and got them ready to go in the incubator. 🥰

Also setting some dinosaur eggs (j/k they are goose eggs) for my friend. They are too big for any turner or egg rack I have so hand turning it is. Her solo goose egg that developed is in lockdown now. I have treated it like any other egg so God speed I guess. 🦖😬

Also I have more Red x Brown Leghorn eggs going into lockdown today. Apparently I set them one week apart instead of two weeks. 😵‍💫

Oh I forgot to mention, I found some deep cracks from shipping damage in one of the BL eggs so I threw it out, and 3 have detached air cells. I have never had luck getting eggs with detached air cells to hatch, but I will give it a shot. The others had wobbly air cells and some were fine. Hopefully some hatch! 🐣

Yeah I'll have to do a final tally up to see what the numbers were.

Wasn't anything like the previous years unfortunately
What varieties of Leghorns do you keep? I remember you said you had Silver Leghorns. A friend of mine has tried to order Silver Leghorn eggs from several different sources and hasn’t had any luck getting any to hatch. Are they one of the more rare variety of Leghorn?
