I went to take a picture of the Silver Wheaten hen we have left (gave some to a friend). And of course, she is broody. Typical Game.

Oh I had one like that out of some eBay Phoenix eggs.

I just noticed something about her. She had yellow legs for a good while and in this picture they are darker.

My OEGB are doing great free range but they have like 9 LF roosters to run too for help.

We have plenty of LGDs so we free range young quail sized chicks out of the brooders every year with very few losses. But without the dogs they would be goners for sure. There are dozens of feral cats in my holler (hollow for those who don’t speek hillbilly). lol

Game hen doing what Game hens do best. She hatched out 3 of her own and I gave her 3 chicks out of the incubator. They ended up being non-NN from the NN pen so I gave them to the hen for her to raise. These things will light your world on fire over their chicks.

My day off and I had big plans for chickening today. But no, the world is against.
Had ordered a 2nd and 3rd blank keys to get cut for my TB. Splurged on the oem ones with an outlined bowtie on them. Showed up yesterday as black with GM on them. Not cool. Called got it straightened out but they wanted me to send those two back. I got an email with an attached label in PDF form. Go to the Post Office as soon as they open. They can't do a damn thing with a PDF attachment. Recommend me go to the library and have them print it off. Drive to the next town. Fancy system that they can't figure out or make work. I tell them can't I just email this to you and you print it? I've done this before with insurance because they wanted me to use my app on the phone instead of giving me a paper copy.
That works but it prints it the full paper size. WTH. She tries three times to get it to print smaller. No luck so I ask can't you old school it put this on the top of the printer hit reduce reduce reduce. Imagine that it works. Go to that towns post office and ask the lady if she can tape that label over the label on the envelope and mail this.
She says I can't tape it on there but you can. I said okay can I tape this on there and then you can mail it. She asked do you have tape? I ask do you? She says our cheapest roll is $3.99. Are you F'ing kidding me? This is your label that you sold and I'm trying to use to mail it through you and you can't even tape it on there?
No thank you I have another errand to run so I will go home and use my own tape I already have. I need a spare tire so I ordered a rim to match mine and a new tire. Now I need to get the tire mounted and balanced on the rim. When I got my inspection I asked them what they would charge me? He told me $15. I told him I will see you when I get the rim and tire.
Tape my label on and go back to the first post office. No problems there and that lady so she can't believe the other post office would not tape that on for me. Yeah no kidding.
Drive back to the next town. The only tire place than either of those towns and now suddenly they want $30 to mount balance. So yeah half of my day spent on people just trying to piss me off.
I did get three pens ready to go and did I walk through inventory of birds. Mostly I discovered I don't have near enough birds.
Think I'm going to do a little planning on paper to start with while continuing to get things ready. Start picking out the roosters I want to use then look to see what hens I have to go with them. Hopefully more progress on Friday.

Wow, that is horrible! The more time I spend around people, the more I realize I enjoy people-ing less and less. Tomorrow is a new day, and hopefully it goes better for you! I look forward to seeing what birds you pair up.

I am hearing tiny chirps in the hatcher. I can't tell much of what's going on in the mesh bag, but I can hear a chick faintly chirping so I'm assuming one has pipped. The two outside of the mesh bag I can see have not pipped yet. I have 2 eggs in the bag and 2 out to keep them separated since they came from two different pens.

I think I'm down to a quad of buffs
A quad of exchequer that I would use. Few blue mottled girls I'll probably throw with them.
Few usable barred girls and a blue barred male. Have a few barred males I'll probably pair up with some blacks or blues.
One lonely crele girl but no crele boys. Need to put her with a brown or blue brown boy to continue those.
Few silver crele girls and couple silver crele and couple blue silver crele boys. Not sure what boys are double or single gene barred. Have silver duckwing female I could also add.
For some reason I only have one brown and 2 blue brown boys but lots of blue brown females and a few brown females.
Couple black males, couple blue males and quite a few black and blue females.
Few splash birds but not sure how many or what. That's my starting point as of now. Some hens I don't care to use and lots of boys that need to go.
I'm probably gonna do a mass eviction and only keep enough to keep going. Would rather be able to feed more future chicks then keep around so many adults I don't really need.
Kind of sad. These last couple years has my leghorn empire feeling like it's in shambles. Decisions, decisions, tuff calls for the future.
