The Polish

We are rebuilding our flock, and are adding about 6 more chicks to our 3 remaining girls. (We have an Easter Egger who is about 6.5 years old, a Golden Cuckoo Maran who is about 5 years old, and a Bantam Brahman who is about 4.5 years old.) We just got 4 chicks over the past week: 2 Columbian Wyandottes, 1 Barred Rock and a Buff Polish. My question is this: we want to get 2 more chicks, should one of our 2 chicks be another Polish to keep the first one company? Thanks for any info/advice!

Get whatever is pleasing to you. Since you have assorted variety, get some of a new variety. :thumbsup
Your Polish chicken will be just fine with whatever chickens she grows up with.
Yes,,, there will be a pecking order challenges. That would be same even if you had only one breed.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome

I have no experience with Polish (yet…I have 2 coming this year!) However I do have experience with a mixed breed flock. Wyandottes and Barred Eocks are WONDERFUL breeds, but their size vs the Polish will be a challenge. I did a LOT of reading before ordering my Polish, and most of what I read suggested getting 2 Polish w a large flock primarily because they look different and can be targets. I have one friend who had a Polish in a small mixed flock w no problems at all, but her chickens ranged her entire yard whenever she was home, so they had a lot of space. I ordered 2 just to make sure mine had a buddy that looked the same. Yours might be fine alone, might not. I prefer to make new additions only once per year. If you find she isn’t fitting in as well, you could always add another later, or do some of the anti-bully tricks. I tend to over think everything lol so take it for what it is…a complete unknown. 😂 She might be fine. Good luck and please continue to update, I’ll be following to see how everything goes!
