I know what you are saying and out of the nine eggs in my two incubators I only have three that are viable and have a slight chance of making it. It's just so much fun to watch them develop and try to figure out what they will look like from the Barnyard mix of ducks I have. Everything has gone wrong with the one incubator but the two in it are still hanging in there, I am not sure how.
Which incubator is all gone wrong? Is it the same one I have? I started with 18 eggs two weeks ago and only have four live right now, but I think only seven of them were even fertile. I only have one Drake with 14 hens so there’s a lot of eggs that aren’t fertile lol it’s just too much for him

As I understand it, it's recommended to have ducklings under a heat plate for the first 2 or better still 3 weeks, but...

- at one week old they already started avoiding the plate (while in the house at 20 C)
- now, at almost 2 weeks old, they are sitting around freely away from the hot plate in their large crate (while in the garage at 17 C)

They are quite large and active. I think we can see the first feathers growing out.

My Baby duck that was due tomorrow hatched out yesterday. It was a miracle that it made it. It was hatched from an old incubator that was cheap from Amazon. I had put the incubator near a door that is opened all the time to let the dog go out. I handled the egg sometimes two times a day just to watch it grow. The humidity was anywhere from 10 to 77 degrees F. It was a Call Duck egg from my own Backyard ducks. That was the only thing it had going for it. It hatched out all by itself as I decided to not intervene. I had read they are stronger if you can let them do it on their own. It is very healthy and very cute. It will be a Pastel color as I have both parents. On top of everything else that I did wrong, the incubator lost power due to a storm during the crucial first days of incubation. God is Good and Peeps is alive and well. I just wanted to share because I thought there was no way this duckling would make it. The other two eggs I have are due next month and still going strong.

No it was a cheap on from Amazon that I bought years ago. It hatched out a couple of ducks back then but nothing since so I gave it no hope at all. I am still amazed that it hatched and that the other egg even though it was neglected and not turned during the lockdown for this one is still going strong.

Ducklings don't seem to need as much heat as chicks do. I have mine in a tote with just a 40 watt reptile light on a reading lamp and a towel over it so that the heat stays in. The duckling born yesterday stays pretty far from it so I moved it up some and uncovered it some. It's a tiny duckling but does well when I take it out to show the Grandchildren or to love on it. lol
