Happy
Sunny Skies Saturday
to Everybody!
Well, except for our friends in the Pacific Northwest, Texas and Canada who have a Strange Weather Saturday…
The whole duck flock, including Sunny's offspring, spent last night together comfortably and warm in the duck-house. - Too bad that the pond is still broken…
it’s ok
my ducks don’t even know what a pond is.
but i still fill their bathing pools in the winter when the weather is mid 20’s or more during the daytime.

I had this idea (uh oh....) Above-ground pool but as a permanent feature.

- make a circle or square (or something) of raised earth maybe like 2 ft tall, 15 ft across
- put pond liner in the middle and over the edges
- stick in a tube at ground level to allow the contents to be fully emptied
- fill up with water
- the edges should have very user friendly slopes on the outside so that the ducks won't have a problem walking in
- the tube should be long and flexible enough so that when I decide to empty out the water, it can be used to water the trees easily (all of this is taking place in a backyard orchard)

.... What do you all think? Just a winter fever dream?

it’s a good plan!

Sounds to me like you will have some very happy ducks!

Yes, ducks will take their baths even in freezing cold temperatures. When my ducks came back last time from their pond i first thought they had been fighting, but it turned out that the feathers on their wings, rumps and backs were frozen solid in weird positions. They were literally covered in ice. And yet, they were just fine...

That is a very good idea, if combined with a rain-water collection system for the roof(s) of your building(s) to avoid a huge water bill. (Unless you have a well)
And think biiiiiig! - Otherwise be prepared to replace the water every second day during the summer.

When I read user friendly slopes, I pictured the ice walls pengiuns slide down on their bellys to launch themselves in the ocean!
