We will be sub zero 8 below on Tuesday night and 2 below F on Monday night. I pray that all of the ducks make it. They have shavings and 7 heated water buckets with plenty of shelter. I have no way of being able to bring them in with them being as big as they are. I just hope my older ones make it. At 2 below F they were fine before last winter but I have several new ones so time will tell.
do they have windbreak where their waters and foods are? My ducks don’t really have enough windbreak out in their yard unless they go back in their duck house, and I refuse to put any water or food inside there. so I’m thankful I have the “cold room” we’ve always called that because it has no heat. It was built as an addition for the people who lived here before us a room for the hunting man to clean his deer. It’s a big room and it has shavings all over the floor now and I use boot trays lined with old towels for their water buckets and then change the towels when they’re soaked.
Saves me from freezing my fingers outside.

I’m bringing my ducks in from out back - to my basement addition side room / duck hospital room- where they can have water that doesn’t freeze and they can stay out of the wind for a few days starting Sunday - cuz MTW will be extra cold for us( single digits F) but my geese will be fine outside cuz I keep them close to the house. Easy for me to feed and water them. And my chickens have a nice run attached to their coop with heated water so they can stay out too. lol only ducks get spoiled
The Dux must be spoiled! 🤣

I understand you! I must haul a bucket of hot water to the dux-house twice a day at least. The waterline from the house to the dux-house is fozen.

I want to move coops and enclosures closer to my trailer so I don't have to spend an hour outside freezing my butt off doing chores, but that would require moving the trailer! Not enough room up close to put up pens and stuff. Unless I cut down the forest behind me.
Assuming that forest acts as a wind break, i would not cut that down! - On the other hand you could use the wood from the forest to build a new dux-mansion…

I recently bought 6 of the Tractor Supply Producer Pride pens and my Husband was able to connect them all together. One whole section is up against our house and I have tarps covering the whole one side to keep so much wind out. They have a prefab chicken coop where the Muscovies like to sleep at night, A pet gazebo which is pretty good size, dog houses, and a covered dog pen which is pretty good size covered in tarps. There are plenty of places to get out of the cold and the water buckets are all heated. They still get in them occasionally to bathe and they don't mind the cold it seems. Early mornings is when they are all huddled together to keep warm in one place or another. I have such a diverse flock that it's amazing to see them all get along so well. It's funny to watch them though because usually you will see them walking around with ones that look like themselves. That must be where the saying :: Birds of a feather, flock together, comes from. The poor Mule always hangs out with the Rouens and Muscovy because she is half and half, lol. Their food is kept in the different houses but not the water. It is all in one area near our house so they can all be plugged in.

Hmmmm... True that. I'd just have to clear it with my daughter first, and she is very protective of those trees...

I'd love to be able to get the trailer to the back of the property, right in the woods. But, how would I get my supplies to and from there? And, no power or running water. Sure, I could somehow install solar panels on top of the trees, dig a deep well and pump water up by hand, get a horse and wagon to haul stuff there... Or harness up the ducks to one!!!

That sounds like Dux-Paradise!
I would love to fence-in the area between the humon- and the dux house - predator save, so that i could leave them outside overnight…
