Anybody feed the Sprout Brand of feed from Fleet Farm? I would like peoples opinions on it's quality. Is it animal protein or Soy protein? I have fed it in the past and had no problems with it, but have never seen it discussed in this section. All opinions welcome !!

I normally feed my girls Nutrena, at 16% protein. 40# for about $20

I noticed “Sprout” brand feed, 50# for $18 and 18% protein — also fortified with marigold extract and other herbs, vitamins and minerals, pretty decently comparable to Nutrena and I figured 10# more and it’s cheaper. Bought 2 bags.

Well, before I made the switch, I was getting 3-6 eggs a day from my flock of 14 hens.

After making the switch, I’m lucky if I get 1 egg a day. NOTHING else has changed. I still supplement lighting, I still supplement heat, I still gave my girls plenty of kitchen scraps and bugs. 1, MAYBE 2 eggs a day.

Confirmed with Fleet Farm that Sprout is a USA made brand, patented by Cargill. And a Cargill rep was supposed to reach out to me to discuss things further.

I’m keeping a sample of the Sprout bag, and I’m wondering where I could maybe send it for testing?

Taking the other, unopened bag back and swapping it for my former brand.

Something isn’t right.

The increase in protein ALONE should’ve given me more eggs….

I was thinking of switching to this brand to just because of the price difference and after looking a lot of information up online, I found this person’s information on Redit I also noticed you were posting about your question to even though it was back in 2010.
