I have an Indio gigante cockerel, between 6-8 months old, who has never crowed. I thought at first that he was being overshadowed by my other roosters, but I only have the gigante flock at the moment which consists of himself and an assumed four ladies. I am 99.9% sure he is male, based on comb color and saddle feathers being present. He does have issues with his feet being malformed, but I don't know if this would impact his crowing? Anyone else have an extremely late bloomer? Or did I just get a silent rooster?

I tried finding an answer online, but didn't get much other than around 24 weeks, and he should be at it or past it. I'll give him more time.

My friend had a Brahma boy that didn't start crowing until 18 months old. All his features were in place including flowing pointy saddle feathers at their normal age range.

All are individuals with unique personalities. I've also had some boys start crowing as early as 3 weeks old.

I would not want to keep him as a breeder, with malformed feet. If breeding is in your plans, and you can get another rooster - I would try and re-home him as there are a lot of people that would love a silent rooster.

My intention is not to breed. I doubt he could with his curled toes. Not everyone rehomes animals who others find imperfect.

18 months, wow! Here's hoping my little man just has some maturing to do.

I am curious what's your hurry to ear him crows? You know once it started, it will not stop until dead. Enjoy your peace and quiet while you can. Could you share his photo?

I have a rooster that crows and crows even with a swollen throat. Crowing his life away these last few days.

I'm someone who actually enjoys the sound of a rooster crowing. I had to re-home my larger flock with two roosters because of an upcoming move. I miss hearing them. He is difficult to get pictures of, but here's from in October with one of the hens in the background.

I was only considering from the breeding aspect. Adding another rooster would put him at a disadvantage. My point was that it can be difficult to re move a rooster, due to the crowing issue. And this bird might be more valued as he doesn’t.

Again, no intention of breeding. I don't know where you got adding another rooster, but I didn't say anything about that.
