Poor Bibu is not feeling well today. Husband noticed she was standing in the run hunched this morning and she was still hunched up and moving slowly this afternoon. She was also shaking like she was really painful. So I gave her some aspirin, which seemed to help. On the bright side she still had enough energy to pull Limu's comb for the grievous offense of getting between her and the peppers i brought them as treats.
Bibu seems to be feeling a little better today. She was slow to get off the roost this morning and still very hunched with her tail down. By this afternoon when I got home from work her tail was in a more upright position and although she was still moving slowly she seemed less uncomfortable. She's eating pellets soaked in warm water enthusiastically today.
THREE eggs today! Limu went into the nest box right as I was starting to get ready to go to work. I was super tempted to call in late and stay to watch her. I think the blue egg might be Amalthea's.
I was hoping it was Bibu's. Her butt has gotten way grosser with caked poop (it seems to be mostly urates). I can't imagine any egg she laid could possibly come through that clean.
Brought Bibu inside for a soak and a butt bath this morning. She sat in the epsom salt soak for 20-30 minutes on her own. She was enthusiastic about the egg, but not that interested in the mash or the scratch. I trimmed her butt feathers just so they didn't get crusted with poop again.
Paprika has been busy this morning! I went out a little after 6am to check Bibu's crop (it's not quite empty ) and Paprika was the only one not on the roost. And this egg was in the nest box!
Hope Bibu's doing better. Artemis is gorgeous as ever!
I have a couple of molting hens who are having some issues and I have to leave town for the weekend. I'm uneasy about leaving a caretaker with them, but they're probably fine. I tend to overreact.
