The WINTER topic...new to chicks this year

At that age I wouldn't worry till it drops into the 30s. I'm closing the windows and have a small heat lamp because I've got 6 week old chicks out there.

Two nights ago it got down to 37 degrees F here and my birds were just fine. It seemed pretty warm in there actually when I went in the next morning. This will be MY first winter with chickens too so it should be interesting since our weather here last year was horrid! One time it was -30! -50 with wind chill added to that! I will keep a light in there just in case...for nights like those!

I just found a Thermo Controlled Outlet from americanlivestock.com that turns on at 35 degrees and off at forty five degrees. You can plug a heat lamp into this to keep your girls warm on cold nights. The great thing is that it only costs $12.50.
