The Wyandotte Thread

I have one adorable Silver Laced Wyandotte named Pebbles! She is the sweetest chicken in our flock of five. Here are some pics of her!

My posts have been double-submitting also lately and I've been on here for 4 years and know how to do it right -- but still it's been happening a lot lately. I don't hit the "submit" until I'm finished typing my post but then it tells me I already submitted when I haven't but sure enough there it will be already posted without my hitting the "submit." Puters - hate them!

Same here...it drives me absolutely nuts!

You know how hatcheries have packages where you can by a variety of breeds. I wish they had a Wyandottes collection package where you could get one of every color. Just a box full of colors.

I hope you realize you would have to have either all pullets or all cockerels because breeding them would not produce offspring like the parents.
I have Columbian and White Wyandotte in breed pens and a few Black, Blue and barred and blue columbian in my layer flock. The barred and blue columbian are not recognized color varieties.
It does make for a colorful flock when you add breeds that are red, mahogany, buff, and splash....you just can't replenish your "jewel tones" by breeding.

Yeah, I realize that if you mix the different varieties you will not get ones that look like the parents. I would be happy with just all the different laced varieties. They would indeed have to be groups of all one gender. I have looked into the genetics a bit. I have seen where I would need to get a golden laced rooster to breed with my silver laced hens if I wanted to breed baby golden laced. Something about how the color genetics is represented on the chromosomes. Would still be super awesome to have one of every kind.
