My dad told me this morning that the dogs had gotten one of Cin's chickens, but he managed to save it just in time. I went looking for it to make sure it was okay (and it seems fine, just smells like dog). But then I happened upon my friend here who has a swollen closed eye and some crusty stuff in between the eyelids, keeping it closed. Keep in mind I'm holding her in these pics as it was the only way I'd get a good picture.

The other eye is perfectly fine. She did have a tick on it the other day, but she seemed fine. She does seem to go back and forth with lice/mites, but still has plenty of energy to dart over to me when I drop off my Swirly or just come for a visit. She seems okay aside from this. Anyone know what's up?

Use some warm moist compresses to moisten and loosen the gunk so the eye can open. Once it's open flush the eye well with sterile saline or eye wash (veterycin makes one - good for all species) and look for any injury or debris in the eye. You can use terramycin eye ointment (Tractor Supply carries it, or some feed stores, it's a tiny tube you may have to ask for it) or plain neosporin (no pain killer) in the eye twice a day in the event it's needed for infection.

Her eye's been washed out and some meds were given! It looks much better aside the swelling. Apple cider vinegar was added to the water. Hopefully the swelling goes down and she recovers nicely!

I'm very glad she's doing better. If you need to do in the future I would not put ACV in the water to flush the eye, I would just use plain water if that's all you have. Vinegar can be irritating, cause redness and swelling, and can cause corneal damage in some cases. I know there are some websites that suggest using it for pink eye, but I personally would not. Getting it in a cut burns, as does getting it in your eye, so with irritation already present, I'd stick with plain water, saline solution, or an eye wash made specifically for that purpose. I'd do the ointment for 5 days and see how it's looking at that point. Looks to be much better than when you started!

Haha no, ACV wasn't used to clean the eye, it was added to the drinking water.
