Hi everyone! I've got an uninvited guest in my pond that has my ducks afraid to go in the water after it caught a crane by its leg. Does anyone know how to get rid of a snapping turtle? As far as I know there is only one in the pond. Any suggestions would be super helpful!

I get 3" hooks and bait them with nasty chicken livers...about 5 strung across on a line. Leave it overnight and most likely you'll have your turtle snagged on a hook in the morning. They will chomp on the chicken liver and be stuck there.

My husband on the other hand just goes out with an AR15, 22 or shotgun, (he's not picky) and sits and waits...his method is much quicker.

Our daughter just gets in the boat, baits a hook, throws it at the turtle, hooks it, and brings it up to brag about how she caught it

Thank you so much! The ducks will be very happy! What a brave girl your daughter is! I haven't jumped in the pond since the turtle showed up two weeks ago. Haha

Hope you catch it, my family raise pekin ducks for meat. We were just discussing how a snapper bit off some of their ducks feet.

It is turtle season her in Ohio, depending on the size, it would make some good soup.

Odds are more than one is present.

If the water is clear, swim after it.

If water is murky but shallow, then put on cheap tennis shoes, sit on bank and waite for it to surface for air, when it does, walk out and track it by bubbles coming off bottom as turtle walks. Track it and step on shell. Tennis shoes enable you to determine tail and business ends. Grab by tail and you have it.

Also can catch by jugging which is similar to using a trotline. My prefered bait is some sort of chopped sunfish like bluegill. Make certain a steal leader is used

My FIL always catches them with a fish hook baited with hot dog (leave overnight attached to a float). Works ever time.
Got me some LIVE ACTION! That guy is whacked.

You wouldn't happen to have a turtle soup recipe would you? Haha

I'm sorry to hear about your ducks, are they doing well otherwise?
