they want you to register your chickens

Here in Wisconsin we have similar laws. If you have any type of livestock you have to have the property registered with the state. They say it is for control if an outbreak occurs. Funny thing is only one back yard flock up here got the bird flu and they had ties to a Commercial operation. Most of what has been hit are the big commercial operations. We have a Premise ID from the state and since we have goats we had to get a Federal ID.

<sigh> I'm so glad they do so many things "for my protection". Like decide what I can or can't eat, what medical procedures I can or can't have, and now registering my backyard flock. Wonder how the heck I lived to be 64 years old if I was too stupid and dense to protect myself from life.

Okay, down off my soapbox now. Sorry.

So far we do have any registration in Connecticut other than commercial operations.
In this communist state I am sure they will decide we need to be protected from ourselves in this as well as everything else.

Being that it's September, this is a little bit of old news. I could go on about how much I oppose this "voluntary mandate", but there was so much controversy behind the order that the agricultural committee decided to not impose a penalty if you don't register your chickens.... Or "dogs" lol.

Wisconsin already has it. And with how hard MN got hit at the turkey farms I would be surprised they don't have something in the works. I am not worried about the government knowing I have livestock or what I have. They do not have numbers. We were here for 2 years with the birds before we were told we had to register the property. They only asked for the types of livestock, not for the number of each. If you get NPIP they want more details than WI did for the registration or the Feds wanted for the federal ID.

In NC they do have to indicate species and and number of each.
