This is what happens when a friend calls late at night and tells you someone is giving away baby chicks.

The majority (17) are week old RIR, the black one is a 2 week old Maran, the light colored one is a Buff Orpington Mix also 2 weeks old.

I know it's too early to tell genders, but they're too friggin' cute not to share.

They are cuties! I wouldn't have been able to resist either!
After I found out I had 2 males and 2 females. I started looking for chicks, or hatching eggs and couldn't find any . . . . I had a different offer some laying pullets, but I'm not set up for layers just yet . . more on that here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/this-took-a-lot-of-will-power.1658594/ if you're interested..

I continued looking for chicks and eggs and nearly gave up . . .

Then these cuties showed up and I knew I made the right choice.

They are too precious!!! Thanks for the baby chick fix!
Those are all great breeds, all lay lots of eggs. Orpingtons are a favorite of mine!
Are these your first or new additions to your existing flock?

No I have 4 BYM 2 males and two females . . .hence the chick finding frenzy I found myself in.

There are a few that are super friendly, but I'm trying not to get attached since I know most of the males will have to go. My luck the super friendly ones will be roos.

Edit: my BYM will be 9 weeks tomorrow.

My luck as well, I got a batch of chicks once and the friendliest one in the bunch (would fly onto your lap, snuggle into your hand, etc.) turned out to be a roo. 🤣
I already had a rooster so I had to rehome; still loved that boy to pieces though.

How many eggs do you get a day from them? Are the eggs a different color from whatever they may be mixed with?
