@Durelle - Unfortunately he had apparently went down overnight and by the time vet got there that AM he already twisted up and ruptured. But nonetheless the old boy had a long, easy life! I’m sorry you’ve had them lost to colic as well. And I understand about panic seeing them laying- haven’t had horses in awhile but I remember checking on everyone and one would just be resting or having a dust roll and I had to stay and watch to make sure they were okay and not in pain.
I am still doing that and for some reason in the summer , they love to lay in the hot sun in the middle of the day. Totally, freaks me out.

Hello..:frow
Do lots of research and even trying to contact a reputable horse trainer to help you along with all your questions before you purchase any horses will definitely be helpful.
They are an expensive hobby although they are fantastic too if you fully understand them..:frow

Mini horses can be used for lots of things including pulling a cart being a liberty horse or trick horse or even a service animal of course they can just be pets too.
As far as medical issues go sometimes they can be prone to insulin resistant and they can have crowding issues with their teeth but other than that they are pretty resilient little horses and plus they are very easy keepers ( they get fat easily!) I would say that minis would make a great starter horse BUT it would not be fair to the horse if you sold it after you had outgrown it so if you do get a mini I would suggest keeping him as a friend for the big horse

Yes..I rescued a miniature horse to be a friend for my Arabian I have. Kept in different pens but great friends. They watch over each other sleeping.
I love Teddy my mini. He isn't totally tame but has a great home here with shelter and good feed.

awe do you have any pictures :)
Here he is getting trimmed a few days ago. Teddy!
