1941 - Germany and Italy declare war on USA and USA declares war in return; apparently, Poland also declares war on Japan but it was not accepted and the countries continued to collaborate, at least according to this article here (and a few others): https://www.warhistoryonline.com/msn/poland-once-declared-war-on-japan-it-lasted-16-years.html/amp

12 December

1787 - Pennsylvania is the second state to ratify the Constitution.

1862 - the USS Cairo was sunk by Confederate torpedoes on the Yazoo River. All of the crew was safely rescued. The Cairo has been reconstructed and is on display at the Vicksburg National Military Park (I have seen it ).
